Located in the border area between Lichuan, Hubei and Shizhu, Chongqing, the enterprise, despite being nestled in the ecological treasure trove of the Wuling Mountains, long suffered from the cognitive barrier of being a "non-core production area" and the complex cross-province logistics costs. Traditional sales channels were like the winding mountain roads—narrow and long. Good products couldn't get out, and brand premium was out of the question.
The turning point began three years ago with a "forced" venture online. During the pandemic, offline channels nearly ground to a halt. The team gritted their teeth and set up a WeChat mini-program store, attempting to post daily life from their cultivation base on short-video platforms. Unexpectedly, a 15-second video of harvesting bamboo fungus in a bamboo forest after rain, with its pristine visual impact, garnered hundreds of thousands of views. "It was then that we suddenly realized the internet had flattened geographical remoteness. Since then, Youyoucao's internet development path has gradually clarified. Instead of blindly pursuing exposure across the entire web, it adopted a combined strategy of "deep content cultivation + precise channel targeting." On one hand, it continuously produces high-quality content showcasing the unique terroir of the Hubei-Chongqing border area and the meticulous farming processes, shaping a brand persona of "deep mountain flavor guardians." On the other hand, it precisely connects with vertical e-commerce platforms, private community groups, and high-end restaurant supply chains that value ingredient traceability, transforming the logistics disadvantage into a scarcity experience of "limited direct supply."
A more crucial step was using the internet to restructure its relationship with farmers. By developing a simple order collaboration system, the company preliminarily connected the harvesting plans of over a thousand cooperative farmers scattered across Hubei and Chongqing with front-end sales data. This achieved production based on sales, reduced waste, and allowed farmers to perceive market pulses more directly. This "cloud cooperative" model not only enhanced supply chain resilience but also became a significant chapter in the brand story.
Of course, challenges are ever-present. Homogeneous competition, rising traffic acquisition costs, the difficulty of standardizing agricultural products, and the compliance complexities brought by cross-province operations are all mountains blocking the path ahead. Youyoucao's choice is to transform the geographical label "E-Yu" from a constraint into a core IP. It deeply explores the diverse, blended food culture of the border area, develops co-branded products with compelling narratives, and actively seeks collaboration with cultural tourism projects in both regions, exploring a new model of "e-commerce + experiential tourism."
Youyoucao's practice reveals a trend: in the latter half of the internet era, the breakthrough for regional enterprises is no longer as simple as opening an online store or doing a live stream. It requires integrating digital thinking into the entire chain from production to branding, transforming original regional limitations into a unique content goldmine and trust asset. A researcher from the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences' Rural Development Institute commented: "Cases like Youyoucao E-Yu signify that the digital development of China's county-level and regional economic units is moving from simple 'online sales' to a stage of 'integrated innovation.' They are no longer passively integrating into the internet but are proactively using internet tools to reorganize production factors and reshape the industrial value chain. This holds significant reference value for promoting cross-administrative economic synergy and rural revitalization."
From being unknown in the deep mountains to becoming known worldwide through the internet, Youyoucao's story continues to unfold. Its exploration may not be entirely replicable, but the path it demonstrates—acknowledging regional characteristics, skillfully using digital tools, and engaging in systematic innovation—undoubtedly lights a referential lamp for countless enterprises also situated in "geographical peripheries."
